In the beginning, there was light. then we made theatre from it.
Floor Thirteen is a new devised theatre collective dedicated to forming collaborative spaces for artists to generate brand-new, experimental work. Our mission is to build an innovative, collaborative, and safe community for artists to push the boundaries of what was previously thought possible in theatre.
Who are we?
a laboratory
We are a theatre collective dedicated to devising new and exciting work, without limitations. Over the course of a twelve-week process, we improvise, experiment, and innovate pieces borne from the actors themselves. Pulling inspiration from non-theatrical sources, we invite our members to be curious about issues that relate them, here and now. Together, we push the envelope of what’s been done before, allowing our members the freedom to try their ideas with abandon and excitement.
A community
We pride ourselves on building a space for actors to congregate and share their ideas. We aren't just colleagues, we're friends and allies. Working together collaboratively, we build art that transcends one season or one festival. Our aim isn't just to create new work, but to create relationships that last far longer than a single project. We form a network of artists that can call and rely on one another for years to come.
A home
We created Floor Thirteen to be a place of safety. Our members can return again and again, without fear of rejection or failure. This encourages far greater ingenuity in the long run. When artists have the freedom to take risks and try things that might not immediately work, the discoveries they make can far exceed what any of us at first thought was possible. Creative potential has no limits here. As long as a member remains curious, dedicated, and respectful, they will always be invited back. We take care of one another, above all else. At Floor 13, artists will always have a home.
